Union Fishermen's Cooperative Alderbrook Station, on the Columbia River in Astoria, Oregon, was built in 1903. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1991.
The Union Fishermen's Cooperative Packing Company dates from 1896. Founded "by a group of gillnetters aiming to gain more control over market and working conditions", the co-op built Alderbrook Station. The three-story Netshed, standing on pilings in the river, is where gillnetters once repaired and stored their boats, and fishing nets were hand-tied and stored.
Michelle and Derek selected Alderbrook Station for their wedding because not only did they fall in love with the unique characteristics of the Netshed, but Michelle helped complete several construction projects at the adjacent Boathouse building. Some of the valuable skills she learned was how to install and frame a window, install cement board, hang an awning, install IPE decking, job safety, and teamwork.
Because of safety concerns with the Netshed's historic open railing construction and sudden drop-offs throughout the property, we regret that children are not permitted at Alderbrook Station events.
We understand this may cause inconvenience, but we hope our guests with children are able to arrange childcare that works best for their family.
If you would like to book accommodations nearest the wedding venue to more easily check on your children cared for by a sitter, the Hampton Inn & Suites or the Crest Motel are less than a five minute drive from the venue.
Please let us know if you have questions.
Semiformal (suit w/tie optional, nice sundresses and cocktail dresses)
The grounds at Alderbrook Station are uneven walking surfaces of grass, gravel, rough wooden floor boards with gaps, and the reception area is only accessible by stairs. We recommend not wearing shoes with a narrow heel.
If weather permits, a short ceremony will be held outside in a sunny spot facing the water. Please bring sunglasses/hats/umbrellas to ensure your comfort.
During the summer, Astoria can be breezy during the day and cool in the mornings and evenings. Please check with the local weather forecast and consider dressing in layers.
